5 Different Areas of Marketing: Shine Where you Fit

Marketing is a very exciting field that keeps growing and growing every single year. Millions of dollars are spent every year to create new products or services and bring something different to target audiences in the different niches.

With the digital marketing world expanding as we speak, nowadays there are different areas of marketing where you can fit in and show your talents and aptitudes. Marketing teams around the globe are becoming more complex and rich with diverse profiles and styles.

Never let someone tell you that there are too many marketers out there! We are on a mission to change that mindset.

Let us go through some of the most attractive areas of marketing and all the possibilities they offer.

Market research.

How do you know if a product will be successful in the market?

This is like flipping a coin: there are high chances for things to go sideways. But if you want to better your chances and become a success story, you must first do some market research.

Are there other products or services like this in the market?

Which ones have been successful and which ones does not?

Who will buy this?

Is this something that offers value to people?

How can I promote this?

Those are all questions that a marketer researcher must answer to maximize the chances for new products or services to have a real impact in the market.

This is an area for people with passion and innovation for new things. You will be doing tons of research and working closely with people in focus groups and other types of dynamics used to test and get real feedback for new products.

In addition, this marketing area is in constant communication with product marketing, which is the larger field that covers everything that goes on in the process of launching products to the market.

More than that, this marketing branch offers possibilities for expansion, especially into the next area we are about to talk about.

Database marketing

This field is for people with a special taste for numbers, graphics, and data dimensions.

Especially in these digital marketing days, data is everything. It is your fundamental pillar to test and try new ways and things. Here at Inspiral we always tell to follow the data rather than doing things just by pure instinct. Improvisation is the enemy of business.

If you decide to go this way, you will be managing existing customer databases for a specific brand. Usually, the main goal is to observe people’s behavior towards your products or services and your brand. Marketing campaigns depend heavily on the insights gathered from database marketing as they provide value for decision-making moments.

Engineering marketing.

This is a particularly interesting area of marketing that we, as growth hackers, love. Engineering marketing is all about founding smart solutions for problems related to your product or service.

Obviously, the main goal is to use these engineering inventions to promote a primary product. Maybe two of the most recent and successful cases of engineering marketing are Fast.com and Ubersuggest.

The first was a Netflix creation with the main idea to provide the streaming service customers with an easy way to check their internet speed at different places in the house, so they could get the most out of the streaming experience.

The latter is the famous marketing AI tool created by Neil Patel. Believe it or not, the idea behind that tool is to position his brand as one of the top in the digital marketing field (and he managed to do it, so we can say for sure that it worked). This free tool is used by many marketing professionals and search engine marketing specialists as it is very user-friendly and complete.

As you can see, both tools provide a solution to a problem that concerns the product and service of the brand. In this particular field, you get to mix both tech and marketing to create smart solutions for your customers.

Content marketing.

Creating high-quality content is a fundamental part of any marketing strategies we want to put in place.

But coming up with great content for a brand is not as simple as it may sound. You need to do lots of research and find out which type of content your audience likes the most and try to provide them with it. For example, if your target audience is mostly teenagers, you will have more chances for your content to be successful if you produce and share photos, videos, and other types of dynamic content.

Creating content marketing strategies requires insights from many other marketing areas. Think about it: now that you have a product, you need to create content related to that product that sparks your audience’s attention but without being too obvious about the fact that you want to sell them something. Quite easy, right?

You will need video marketing, brand management, database info, SEO reports, graphic designers, and other professionals if you want your marketing efforts to provide the expected results and your content not go to waste.

If you are passionate about creating content, if you have a creative vein flowing ideas through your body all-day, content marketing is the perfect area where you can show that talent. People want to connect with real, caring brands. Every piece of content we create is a medium to communicate with that audience.

Influencer marketing

Finally, another fun but crazy marketing field has become as essential as many others.

Sometimes, having an extra pair of hands on deck can go a long way when wanting to create awareness for a brand. Influencer marketing is the area where you will have to find the right people to represent and carry the brand values and vision.

If you have people skills and a sharp eye to spot great opportunities, this is the perfect field for you. You will learn PR management, as well as other marketing skills needed to triumph in this field.

And who knows, maybe someday you will be the influencer.

Marketing, as you can see, is a field that provides countless opportunities to grow and expand your knowledge. These are just a few among the many others you can find. Whether you decide to choose one (or several) from this list, just keep in mind the importance of always studying and being aware of changes in trends and conducts in the market.

That way, you will always be one step further.

About Juan Carlos

I have been developing startups and scaleups in Europe and South America throughout my life.
From 2012 to 2016, I developed several companies in the Netherlands' Import and Export and tourism sector.
A key milestone was to scale one famous US franchise ¨¨ Ripley's Believe It or Not¨, in Europe— becoming one of the 32 Museums of Ripley's Believe It or Not and one of the 96 Attractions of the Ripleys Entertainment Group.

Since 2016, my focus has been on developing startups such as Chamba, a Gig Economy Platform for Home Services in Ecuador, and SelfieFeedback, an Online Reviews Platform based in The Netherlands.
Back in 2018, together with two cofounders, we created our marketing agency in Ecuador called Serendipia to understand how to accelerate the process of launching a company.
Serendipia (www.serendipia.ec) is a marketing agency working with client companies such as Estes in Ecuador and has been part of developing the first tech community called Guayaquil Tech.

Since 2020, I have been applying Growth Hacking in our agency and startups. And in 2021, I launched our own Growth Hacking Agency, Inspiral Growth.

Growth Hacking is about constantly learning.

Having completed academic studies in Germany, Denmark and Ecuador made it possible to take a comprehensive view of management styles and understand the cultural map needed in international environments.

- With more than 15 years of experience as a CEO and ten years as an entrepreneur, I focus on helping sustainable projects and working with leaders in their respective sectors.

For me, Growth Hacking is the next level of Business Development.
Reaching the status of a T-Shape Growth Hacker can be pretty challenging, yet not impossible.

Our goal with Inspiral Growth is always to learn new strategies to scale the brands we assist.
We believe in a lean and sustainable approach.

For that reason, we call our agency Inspiral Growth.
