What is Growth Hacking? By Inspiral Growth
What is Growth Hacking? Is probably one of the first 3 questions I get while onboarding a new company client.
As a Growth Hacker, this scenario even became a great experiment, in order to run an A/B Testing and find the most suitable answer. Especially when our goal is to only work with brands with a clear vision and a sustainable future.
Quickly it became very clear that speaking about the subject with a person with little or no knowledge about Marketing could be quite a challenge.
Nonetheless, the challenge was accepted every single time.
Back in 2021, we launched Inspiral Growth with one objective in mind: Build our own version of growth hacking and apply it to the brands we believe in and serve daily.
And we will share every single piece of relevant information for you here in our blog weekly. So let’s summarise here for you some of the most common answers to the question:
What is Growth Hacking?
Let’s also include some useful segmentations on the way.
To start with, let me share my own personal answer: For the past 15 years, I had the honor to work closely with great Investors, Corporate Owners, and Visionaries from Russia, Ecuador, The Philippines, France, Israel, and The US. Some of them even became temporary mentors in the art of Business Development. Growth Hacking is for us the next level of Business Development.
The Tools, the data, and the experiments we implement while launching a new startup as Business Developers are coming each year closer and closer to the ones that a Growth Hacker would use. And most important, they are now more than ever, not only relevant for startups but also for large transnationals.
What is Growth Hacking for startups?
Here is mainly where it all started. Sean Ellis, as the father of the Growth Hacking movement applied strategies and tools in companies such as Dropbox and Eventbrite, that changed the way how startups around the world are now being launched. *Growth comes from understanding your best customers and finding out how to acquire more of them¨ Sean Ellis said.
Have you ever invited a friend with a coupon or a link to use an app or a SAAS just to be able to get something for free? Well, that was a growth hack and Dropbox hit a homerun with that in the past.
What are some growth hacks for B2B SaaS companies?
We just told you about one of them in the referral stage. Referral Stage? Yes, with Growth Hacking, a new funnel appeared aside from the more traditional Customer Lifecycle. This New Funnel was defined as the Pirate Funnel because of the AAARRR.
The Framework was invented by Dave McClure to map out and optimize the marketing funnel of each business.
The Stages Are
- AWARENESS – How do we get people to visit our product or service?
- ACQUISITION – What is the first significant action we want people to take?
- ACTIVATION – When do people experience the value of our service for the first time and get a WOW moment?
- RETENTION – Do people need to use our service more than once to be considered retained?
- REFERRALS – How do people invite others?
- REVENUE – What’s the pricing model?
Each of these stages allows multiple ways to create experiments and optimize your product marketing.
Here in Inspiral Growth, we wake up thinking about which experiment can we apply next for the success of the brands we serve.
What is the most ingenious growth hack you have encountered?
Every brand and sector presents new opportunities. Tools like Usability or Hotjar are great tools to optimize a customer journey. If you wish to find the right kind of leads on LinkedIn you can use tools like Recruiting or Crystal Knows. Certainly one of my favorite tools is the Headline Analyzer of Sharethrough for conversion Rate or CRO and Answerthepublic for Topic Research.
After all, there is no limit to the imagination when it comes to experimentation.
At what point should I hire a growth hacker?
More and more often you see large companies hiring a Growth Hacker in their Marketing Team, hoping for miracles overnight. We believe that it is important to have the right mindset, starting from the Head of Marketing, CEO and COO before going into Growth Hacking.
For years people have been talking about Digital Transformation. Growth Hacking is part of it most certainly.
And we will certainly share more about Growth Hacking in our next articles. For now, we would like to invite people to understand more about Growth Hacking with one of the leading Academies in the world so check out this:
So How can I become a growth hacker?
My journey with Growth Hacking started years ago, but certainly one of the milestones was while obtaining the Immersive 12 Weeks Certification of Growth Tribe.
Growth Tribe has taught thousands of professionals around the globe and I’m proud to share my experience with them with anyone looking for more insights about it.
Moreover, Growth tribe is delivering some very special courses in the coming months that any Founder living in the Netherlands should know about.
Here is a copy of the certification we received from Growth Tribe in 2021

UPDATE July 2022:
In the last month, I was more than happy to have achieved my second certification with Growth Tribe. This time in Business Analytics. Our goal now is to take our agency from a Descriptive Analytics Agency to a Prescriptive Analytics Agency in the coming future. }
If you are an EU Citizen I strongly recommend you check the Growth Tribe Courses before September 2022. The EU is helping professionals to increase their skills and Growth Tribe is part of that initiative.
