How to become a business coach

How to become a business coach?  My objective is to answer your question with this writing. While sharing some of the lessons learned in leadership and entrepreneurship over the past 15 years.

Over the last decade, August has represented a month of growth. Whether it was on a personal level or a professional level, it has always been something that profoundly changes my relationship with my family, and with my community.

This August 2023 raises the bar to a higher level than I could have ever imagined.  The reason is mainly this brief story of the last 4 months with the Certified Business Coach (CBC) Program of Evercoach by Mindvalley.

The quest and certification of 2023

become a business coachAfter finishing my mechanical engineering diploma in 2007, my parents taught me to keep expanding my skills yearly when my father signed me up to follow several MBA courses at the UEES in 2008. I lost my father in 2010, nonetheless, my mother kept motivating me year after year.

So, I started a personal tradition in 2019 by adding a new certification every summer which has included Growth Tribe, Foundr, ManyChat,  Hubspot, LinkAffinity, and now Evercoach by Mindvalley.

The first time I heard about the Certified Business Coaching Program (CBC) was back in the summer of 2022 with a Masterclass by Vishen Lakhiani, Ajit Nawalkha, and Ronan Diego.

At that very moment, even though I felt not ready yet to take the step to join their program, I wrote down a few points from the masterclass and applied them the day after. In the turn of a few months, these few tips had a great impact on my life.

I learned to schedule and fully dedicate two days of my week to the discovery of growth and innovation for my business. That required a lot of changes in my mindset.

Following my values

Early this year, I learned about a new chance to join the CBC program. One of my values is to be bold and take action; therefore, I knew it was the right time to join this program. I was ready, my life situation, and my company were well-prepared.

However, I could never have imagined just how much I still had to change, how much I needed to learn, to feel, to smile, and how much I had to let go during this certification.

For years, I have been engaging with entrepreneurs, books, courses, and masterclasses about human nature, psychology, innovation, and high performance. Over the years, I experienced my fair share of ups and downs in the corporate world; subsequently, I transitioned into being a fully committed serial entrepreneur.

I´m thankful for every one of those experiences. If there is one thing you can also learn from coaching, it’s that you need to learn to love everything about your past to be able to move on.

Moreover, in the last 4 months, all of this came together, making sense at a higher level. I began to understand and apply the concept of a growth mindset to my daily life. It became a real “always be learning and acting with a purpose” mentality.

The Start of CBC

When the program commenced, I instantly immersed myself in my goal-setting persona. Over the past few years, I used to label myself as an objective-driven person, relentlessly pursuing goals and conquering challenges in my path. Objectives held great significance in my life, or so I thought. However, my perspective has significantly evolved, thanks to the CBC program. It has provided me with invaluable lessons, some of which I’ll share later in this narrative as memorable, concise phrases.

Furthermore, as the program began, I outlined the areas in which I anticipated transformative shifts in my life. In recent years, I’d become increasingly eager to overhaul anything that wasn’t functioning optimally in my life. In many instances, I even attempted to catalyze change in those around me.

My understanding has deepened, all thanks to the CBC. I’ve recently redirected my focus towards Value Hacking, carving it as my niche within the realm of coaching. Additionally, I’ve seized this opportunity to introduce you to several outstanding coaches within our Evercoach-Mindvalley network, which you’ll find detailed at the end of this narrative.

Evolving Through the CBC Program

Upon joining the program, I already possessed a grasp of what it meant to cultivate a growth mindset, along with a superficial understanding of my core values. However, comprehending something and integrating it into your daily existence represent two divergent domains.

Thanks to the CBC, my comprehension has matured. My aspiration now revolves around fostering awareness in every action, every day. This shift has also brought about a sharper focus on Value Hacking.

During the CBC

Years ago, a friend asked me if I ever had a coach in my life. My answer was “Never”. I did once shortly, but the experience also taught me about the difference between having a coach and working with a crisis manager.

On the contrary, the CBC weekly lessons with Ajit Nawalkha himself, the weekly Coach Labs, and the experience of months of constant training with my fellow CBC coaches showed me the wonderful side of this path.

Moreover, all the 15 years of practice from being a team leader, Head of Departments, and later a CEO, founder, and co-founder of startups, all enhanced my experience now as a business coach. It made much more sense to be a teacher to other founders and entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, the CBC experience has been a vehicle of growth to understand how each of these past experiences came together as pieces of a puzzle.

To add to that, they enhanced my vision with Inspiral Growth and what I could become. We all have life experiences to share that may bring a new perspective to the current life of others in need. For that reason, I also created on YouTube channel; our Inspiral Growth Academy where I now share my knowledge weekly in English and Spanish.

Last July, the pinnacle of my CBC Experience was the Supercoach 3-Days Gathering in Tallinn, Estonia. During the event, I used a packet of sticky notes to write down every single idea.

Every lesson learned from the wonderful keynote speakers, such as Ajit himself and his wife Neeta, such as Vishen Lakhiani, Paul McKenna, Ronan Diego, and Fran. Borrowing the term created by Ajit as WOA (Work of Art), here are some of the sticky notes I found in my bag back home:

These are just 20 lines out of probably hundreds of great moments that we shared with the Supercoach Family in Tallinn this last summer. I thank a thousand times everyone who made each of them possible.

It´s just the Beginning

Everything in life has an ending, and as one of my favorite quotes by Anne M.G. Schmidt said: “Every story has a happy ending; you just need to know when to stop.” The CBC Experience was just the beginning.

Now that the first phase is over, it’s time to boost Inspiral Growth and put all the new knowledge gained into action. Here are some of the upcoming changes for Inspiral Growth.

About Juan Carlos

I have been developing startups and scaleups in Europe and South America throughout my life.
From 2012 to 2016, I developed several companies in the Netherlands' Import and Export and tourism sector.
A key milestone was to scale one famous US franchise ¨¨ Ripley's Believe It or Not¨, in Europe— becoming one of the 32 Museums of Ripley's Believe It or Not and one of the 96 Attractions of the Ripleys Entertainment Group.

Since 2016, my focus has been on developing startups such as Chamba, a Gig Economy Platform for Home Services in Ecuador, and SelfieFeedback, an Online Reviews Platform based in The Netherlands.
Back in 2018, together with two cofounders, we created our marketing agency in Ecuador called Serendipia to understand how to accelerate the process of launching a company.
Serendipia (www.serendipia.ec) is a marketing agency working with client companies such as Estes in Ecuador and has been part of developing the first tech community called Guayaquil Tech.

Since 2020, I have been applying Growth Hacking in our agency and startups. And in 2021, I launched our own Growth Hacking Agency, Inspiral Growth.

Growth Hacking is about constantly learning.

Having completed academic studies in Germany, Denmark and Ecuador made it possible to take a comprehensive view of management styles and understand the cultural map needed in international environments.

- With more than 15 years of experience as a CEO and ten years as an entrepreneur, I focus on helping sustainable projects and working with leaders in their respective sectors.

For me, Growth Hacking is the next level of Business Development.
Reaching the status of a T-Shape Growth Hacker can be pretty challenging, yet not impossible.

Our goal with Inspiral Growth is always to learn new strategies to scale the brands we assist.
We believe in a lean and sustainable approach.

For that reason, we call our agency Inspiral Growth.
